Sounders fans are a diverse bunch, united by one thing: our love of the Rave Green. We’re collecting stories as video and audio, to create an oral history of soccer support in Seattle.
Our friend Liam sent us this, and we couldn’t say it any better;
There are 40,000 friends of mine in a building south of the city. I’ve met many of them, some becoming dear friends. The rest I’ve passed on the street, tipping my cap at a scarf or a shirt. I see them in traffic with FULL90 bumper stickers and we know each other by our bruised shins and hoarse throats.
We wear the same colors but we’re from different places and we can be very different, my friends and I. We have little in common but when we hear the sound, something stirs. The strains flow up from the sea and swell, lifting thousands of voices as one, crashing against the mountains like waves. The sound moves us, it shapes us, as we’re weathered by time and trial and tumult. The sound is our love; of the game, of the club, of each other. I can hear it even now…
The name on the back of the shirt matters less than the name on the front, because the one on the front belongs to all of us. What we've built lasts long after the lights have gone dark and the crowds have gone home. We are supporters.
We are launching with six videos today and releasing one fortnightly starting in January. We’ll also be releasing the full audio of each interview as a podcast on Nos Audietis. Want to tell your own Supporter Story? Contact us.
